Formula design
We begin with standard mathematical definitions and state which quantity forms the denominator. That distinction matters: profit margin divides profit by revenue, while markup divides profit by cost. Reverse calculations are derived algebraically from the same formula.
Precision and rounding
Calculators use decimal arithmetic rather than ordinary binary floating-point operations for money-sensitive formulas. Intermediate values retain high precision. Money is normally shown to two decimal places and percentages to two percentage points, using half-up rounding. The displayed values may therefore differ by a cent from a provider that rounds each fee component separately.
Validation and edge cases
Blank, malformed, and impossible inputs produce an explanation—not a fabricated zero. Tests cover zero denominators, losses, negative values where meaningful, decimals, large values, boundary percentages, and reverse calculations.
Review and corrections
Each calculator displays a genuine review date. Provider-specific rates and jurisdiction-specific rules require more frequent review than stable arithmetic. Metricivo’s first calculators deliberately avoid changing provider presets and regulated advice. If you find an issue, use our corrections process.
