How to create a QR code

  1. Choose what the code should contain, such as a SEPA payment, URL, Wi-Fi login, or contact card.
  2. Enter the information and customize the colors, size, or logo where supported.
  3. Wait for the local scan check to confirm that the generated code can be decoded.
  4. Download a PNG for digital use or an SVG for sharp printing.
  5. Scan the final image—and any printed proof—with at least two appropriate apps before publishing it.

Your information stays on your device

Metricivo generates and verifies the QR code inside your browser. URLs, Wi-Fi passwords, contact details, messages, events, and uploaded logos are not sent to Metricivo. Avoid putting passwords or confidential information in a QR code that other people can see.

Static QR codes do not expire

A static QR code stores its destination or content directly in the pattern. It does not need an account, paid subscription, Metricivo redirect, or active Metricivo service to keep working. However, the encoded content cannot be edited after the code is printed. If a URL changes, create and distribute a new code.

SEPA bank-payment QR codes

The SEPA bank payment option follows the European Payments Council’s EPC069-12 version 3.1 format. It can include the beneficiary name, IBAN, optional BIC, optional euro amount, and either a free communication, Belgian structured communication, or ISO RF creditor reference.

Metricivo validates the IBAN and supported structured-reference check digits before creating the code. Payment QR codes use the specification’s required Medium error correction, black-on-white colors, and no center logo. The completed transfer is still shown and authorized inside the payer’s banking app; a QR code cannot withdraw money or approve a payment by itself.

Compatibility: EPC payment QR support is optional for banks and is intended for SEPA euro credit transfers, particularly invoice-style use where the payment details also appear in plain text. Confirm support with your bank and always print the beneficiary, IBAN, amount, and communication beside the QR code.

PNG or SVG: which should you download?

PNG is convenient for websites, documents, email, and social media. SVG is a vector format that stays sharp when enlarged, making it the better choice for signs, menus, packaging, and professional printing. Ask your printer which format and color mode they require.

Make your QR code easier to scan

  • Use a dark foreground on a light, plain background.
  • Keep the clear border—or quiet zone—around every side.
  • Do not crop, stretch, blur, or heavily compress the image.
  • Use High error correction when adding a logo.
  • Print it large enough for the intended scanning distance.
  • Test the exact final placement in realistic lighting.

Frequently asked questions

Is this QR code generator free?

Yes. It requires no account, payment, subscription, or watermark.

Can Metricivo track QR code scans?

No. Metricivo creates static codes without a tracking redirect. If the code points to a website you control, you may measure visits using that website’s own privacy-compliant analytics.

Can I make a QR code for a bank transfer?

Yes. Select SEPA bank payment. Metricivo creates a standards-based EPC payment QR for participating European banking apps. It supports only IBAN-based euro transfers—not card payments, US ACH details, cryptocurrency, or bank-login information.

What is a Belgian structured communication?

It is a 12-digit payment reference whose final two digits are calculated from the first ten using modulo 97. You may enter ten base digits and let Metricivo calculate the check digits, or provide a complete valid reference. Do not add extra text to a structured communication.

Why did the scan check fail?

The most common causes are low color contrast, too much embedded content, an oversized logo, or an insufficient quiet zone. Restore dark-on-light colors, remove the logo, choose High error correction, or shorten the content.

Are QR codes safe?

A QR code can lead to any encoded destination. Verify links before sharing or opening them, and do not place confidential data in a publicly visible code. Metricivo shows the exact encoded content so you can inspect it.
